A Shred Ahead, the Southeast’s leading independent document destruction company, has recycled over 5 million pounds of unwanted paper in the first half of 2009.
The Durham, North Carolina-based company contracts with businesses and organizations that need to get rid of highly-confidential, unwanted paper. With its fleet of state-of-the-art mobile shredding trucks, A Shred Ahead collects and destroys medical records, intellectual property, and other sensitive information. The company transports every piece of shredded material directly to regional recycling ventures, turning flakes of paper into products like printer paper, packing materials, and paper products like toilet paper and paper towels.
Nearly every piece of unwanted paper is recycled and converted into a new use.
According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, a ton of recycled paper saves:
- 3.5 cubic yards of landfill space,
- 17 thirty-foot pulp trees,
- 7,000 gallons of water,
- 380 gallons of oil,
- 4,100 kilowatt hours of energy, and
- 60 pounds of air pollutants.
A Shred Ahead has shredded and recycled over 5,200,00 pounds of paper in the first half of 2009. So in just six months, we’re proud to have saved:
- 9,248 cubic yards of landfill space,
- 44,922 thirty-foot pulp trees,
- 18,497,500 gallons of water,
- 1,004,150 gallons of oil,
- 1,834,250 kilowatt hours of energy, and
- 158,550 pounds of air pollutants.
A Shred Ahead is on-pace to recycle over 10,000,000 pounds of paper in 2009. Business is up 30 percent over last year, due to A Shred Ahead’s recent expansion and an increased corporate push to recycle unwanted materials.
Businesses, organizations, and government agencies can easily share in A Shred Ahead’s “green” impact. Shredding unwanted, confidential paper has immediate and significant environmental results. “A Shred Ahead will recycle about as much paper as a city with 30,000 residents in 2009.” says Tom Hanlon of A Shred Ahead. “We’re extremely proud of these positive environmental results, and so are our customers.”
